Board Member Buddy Program

The goal of the Board Member Buddy Program is to obtain a more personal relationship between the executive board and the club members. This is an opportunity to inform students about the various opportunities that both accounting and Cal Poly have to offer. Because the board is comprised of upper-classmen, we feel it is important to share our knowledge about interviews, the various internships available, and numerous other experiences we have had over the course of our college careers. After signing up for a board member buddy, members are contacted by their designated board member. From this point, the board member schedules an individual meeting time with the club member to discuss various topics.

We offer this program throughout the year and we have noticed outstanding results. We believe this program is very important to getting under-classmen more involved on campus. In addition, we believe it helps them develop communication and networking skills. CPAC sponsors quarterly events, such as Buddy Bowling, or frozen yogurt socials to help foster the relationship between the board members and their buddies. CPAC board members often take their buddies to grab coffee or get lunch; these meetings allow the buddies to ask questions and gain insight from an older student.

The program has allowed the CPAC board members to bond and develop professional, yet personal relationships with the club’s members. Some of the most common tasks that underclassmen seek assistance include resume help, interviewing techniques, proper etiquette, course planning, studying abroad, and professionalism. Board members also revise resumes and cover letters when club members need assistance.
